The 23-year-old has been in stunning form for the French side this season where he has fired in more Ligue 1 goals than Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi.
Moffi has ten strikes to his name from 16 matches where he has helped Lorient reach sixth in the table.
His dazzling displays have put him on Southampton’s radar, with talkSPORT revealing last month he had been identified as a potential January signing.
Nathan Jones’ side are in desperate need of goals as they sit bottom of the Premier League table having scored just 12 times from 18 games.
But in a blow for the Saints, West Ham have now entered the fray as they also look to beat the drop as they languish in 17th place.
And in a boost for the Hammers, the east London outfit can offer Moffi European football having progressed into the knockout stages of the UEFA Conference League.
talkSPORT’s Alex Crook has provided the lowdown on the battle to secure the Nigeria international’s services.
Crook has stated that any potential suitor must cough up a hefty £25million for the player.
He tweeted: “West Ham have joined the race for Lorient striker Terem Moffi.
“Southampton still at the table, but looking less likely due to £25m asking price.”
With Moffi’s contract at Stade du Moustoir to expire in 2024, Lorient know time is running out if they wish to cash in on him.
And while he has banged in seven goals in all competitions, just three of those strikes have come in the Premier League.
Michail Antonio meanwhile has scored just twice, with West Ham needing to add firepower having failed to claim a top-flight win since beating Bournemouth on October 24.
