Shin Ji-ae, 35, earned her sixth top-10 finish of the season at the Japan Ladies Professional Golf (JLPGA) Tour’s Resort Trust Ladies (140 million yen in prize money).
Shin shot a 2-under 70 in the fourth round on the final day of the tournament at Grand Hamanako Golf Club (par-72) in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, for a 13-under 275 total and a share of eighth place with Erika Kiguchi and Shiho Kuwai. Miyu Yamashita (JPN) shaved four strokes off her final day total for a 21-under par 267.
Shin Ji-ae, who made the cut in a tie for 22nd place after the second day, shot a 7-under 65 on the third moving day to jump up the leaderboard.
Entering the final day in a tie for sixth place, six strokes behind the leader, Shin climbed to a tie for fourth place midway through the day before back-to-back bogeys on the 12th (par-3) and 13th (par-4) holes dropped her to a tie for 13th place.
As her spirits sank and a top-10 finish seemed out of reach, she birdied the 14th (par-5) and 16th (par-5) to move up the leaderboard and finish in the top 10.
Shin, who won the Daikin Orchid스포츠토토 Ladies in March, the opening event of the JLPGA Tour’s 2023 season, to give her 63 career victories (excluding one amateur win), has been in contention for the title four times since, but came up just short of the record. She finished third at the T-Point Ladies and runner-up at the KKT Bantenlin Ladies and World Ladies Championship Salonpas Cup, narrowly missing out on the title.
However, after finishing tied for 10th at the RKB Mitsui Masushima Ladies last week, she finished the tournament in a tie for eighth, giving her three top-10 finishes in a row and six top-10 finishes in nine tournaments this season in which she has made the cut.
Bae finished tied for 12th with an 11-under par 277 total, while Inari finished tied for 21st (7-under par 281).
With the win, Yamashita earned her second straight top-10 finish following last week’s Bridgestone Ladies Open and her third victory of the season following the Fujifilm Studio Alice Open earlier in the season.
