‘Incheon is too small’ LG’s Park Dong-won leads the way with 11th and 12th home runs of the season

Home run leader LG Twins’ Park Dong-won (33) exploded for a multi-homer game.

Park went 3-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs, and two runs scored in the seventh spot in the lineup against the SSG Landers at SSG Landers Field in Incheon on May 25.

Park joined LG as a free agent this season and has been hitting monster home runs one after another. He hit his 10th home run of the season against the KT Wiz on April 16, becoming the first player to reach double digits in home runs. He is now the opening day home run leader. Until the previous day (24th), Park Dong-won had 10 home runs and Hanwha Eagles’ Roh Si-hwan was second with nine.

Park hit a home run in the first inning against SSG on the 25th. In the top of the eighth inning, Park Dong-won hit another home run. Trailing 6-3, he pulled a 140-kilometer-per-hour slider from Moon Seung-won for a 120-meter wedge solo home run. It was the first time he had hit two home runs in a game in 18 days, after hitting one against Doosan in Jamsil on July 7.

Park leads the league with eight home runs in 18 games this month.

LG won 8-3 on the day. LG, which took the best-of-three series (2-1) from SSG in the battle for first place, knocked the co-leaders out of the race and took sole possession of first place in a single day. LG now has a season record of 28 wins, 15 losses and one draw, with a winning percentage of 0.651.

In the bottom of the fifth inning with LG leading 6-3, Park Dong-won singled with runners on first and second and Choi Joo-hwan stole third. He was out due to timing. However, Park made a precise throw to third base to get Choi Ji-hoon out of the jam.
