‘Former big leaguer’ Kim Gwang-hyun, the worst pitch after returning to Korea… Least innings/Most runs scored

Kim Kwang-hyun (SSG Landers) played two seasons in the Major League (MLB) and returned to the KBO League, and then pitched the worst.

Kim Gwang-hyun started in an away game against the Hanwha Eagles in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League held at Daejeon Hanwha Life Insurance Eagles Park on the 8th, and was sluggish with 8 hits (1 home run), 4 walks, 1 strikeout and 5 runs in 3 innings.

With the bottom of the 4th inning trailing 0-5, SSG replaced Kim Gwang-hyeon who threw 70 pitches and put in high school rookie Song Young-jin as the second pitcher.

With this, Kim Gwang-hyun finished his major league challenge in March 2022 and pitched at least innings after joining SSG.

On July 2 last year, in the literary KIA Tigers match, it was the previous minimum innings pitch to be replaced in 3⅔ innings due to a’headshot exit’ that hit Socrates Brito’s face in the 4th inning and 2 outs. Except for that game스포츠토토, he was responsible for more than 5 innings and fulfilled his role as an ace.

The 5 runs also tied the record for the most runs in a game after Kim Gwang-hyun’s return. Kim Gwang-hyun recorded 5 runs (1 earned) in 7 innings due to 3 errors in the game against Changwon NC Dinos on June 7 last year. However, in this Hanwha match, all five points were Kim Gwang-hyun’s own points.

Kim Gwang-hyun showed anxiety from the start of this season. In the opening game against the KIA Tigers on the 1st, he became the winning pitcher, but his pitching was not good, with 4 hits, 3 walks, 3 strikeouts and 1 run in 5 innings.

He shook even more in his second appearance of the season.

Kim Gwang-hyun allowed Chae Eun-seong a solo shot at the end of the second inning and scored the first run. Afterwards, he allowed a double to Brian O’Grady and a walk to Jang Woon-ho and Choi Jae-hoon, and was driven to the first out with full bases. After an 8-pitch match, Oh Seon-jin was caught with a floating ball in right field, but third base runner O’Grady stepped home and the score was 0-2.

The bottom of the 3rd inning was like a nightmare. Kim Gwang-hyun gave up 5 hits and 1 walk and contributed 3 points. In particular, he hit 4 hits in a row, including Kim Tae-yeon, Jang Un-ho, Choi Jae-hoon, and Oh Seon-jin, from 2nd out and 1st base.

Kim Gwang-hyeon brought Lee Won-seok on base with a walk and brought the bases loaded with two outs, but Jeong Eun-won was treated as a third baseman foul fly, and the inning was barely over.

In the end, SSG coach Kim Won-hyung had to replace Kim Gwang-hyun, who was being battered, early. Kim Gwang-hyun’s season average ERA soared from 1.80 to 6.75.
